- What LOD should I ask for?
- LOD 200 suits space planning and area studies. LOD 300 suits design and documentation. LOD 350 adds the connection and clearance detail coordination needs. Asking for 350 everywhere when you only need it in plant rooms is the most common way scan-to-BIM budgets overrun.
- Do I need to send the raw scans?
- Send the registered cloud, not raw stations, plus the registration report and coordinate system. Unregistered data means the modeller either registers it — billable — or models from misaligned geometry.
- How accurate is a scan-to-BIM model?
- Accuracy is set by the tolerance you agree, commonly 10–25 mm on structure and looser on services in congested ceilings. Ask for a deviation report so accuracy is demonstrated rather than claimed.
