Converting DXF to DWG, step by step

1Open the DXF in AutoCAD (or BricsCAD) — it opens directly, no import wizard needed.
2Save As → AutoCAD Drawing (*.dwg), choosing the version your team standardises on.
3Run AUDIT to fix errors carried over, then PURGE to drop unused layers and blocks the DXF brought with it.
4Re-map layers to your office standard (LAYTRANS with a standards file) before the drawing joins a live project.
5Check units: if the geometry lands at the wrong scale, the DXF had different INSUNITS — scale by 25.4 or 1/25.4 as needed.

Why is my geometry 25.4 times too big or small?

A millimetre drawing was read as inches, or the reverse. Scale the whole drawing by 25.4 or 0.0394 and set INSUNITS correctly.
