Revit Room command

Shortcut: RMModel

Places a bounded room object that reports area, volume and finishes, and feeds room schedules and tags.

Syntax

RM → set upper limit and offset → click inside a bounded area → tag

Step by step

  1. Type RM or use Architecture > Room.
  2. Set the upper limit and limit offset so the room reaches the ceiling.
  3. Turn on the room tag option if you want tags placed as you go.
  4. Click inside each bounded area.
  5. Rename rooms in the schedule rather than one by one in the view.

Rooms that report the right area

Upper limit Level 2, offset 0, room bounding on for walls but off for the furniture family that was mistakenly set to bound. Areas then match the architect's schedule instead of drifting a few percent.

Common mistakes

  • Room bounding left on for non-bounding families, splitting rooms invisibly.
  • Upper limit at the placement level, so volumes compute as near zero.
  • Deleting a room tag and assuming the room is gone — unplaced rooms stay in the project.
  • Gaps in wall runs that let a room leak into the corridor.

Questions

Why is my Revit room area wrong?

Either a non-bounding element is set to room bounding, or the wall run has a gap and the room spills into the adjacent space. Turn on the Area and Volume computation setting to see the boundary.

How do I delete unplaced rooms?

Create a room schedule, sort by area, and delete the rows with no area from within the schedule. Deleting the tag in a view does not remove the room.
