Revit Wall command
Shortcut: WAModel
Places a wall by picking a location line. Height, type and location line are set before drawing, and the wall stays parametric afterwards.
Syntax
WA → choose type → set height and location line → drawStep by step
- Type WA or use Architecture > Wall.
- Choose the wall type in the Properties palette.
- Set the base and top constraint, ideally to levels rather than an unconnected height.
- Set the location line — Core Face Exterior or Wall Centreline changes how the wall reports later.
- Draw the run, using Chain for continuous walls.
External walls bound to levels
Base constraint Level 1, top constraint Level 2 with a 0 offset, location line Core Face Exterior. Raise Level 2 later and every wall follows, which an unconnected height would not.
Common mistakes
- Unconnected height instead of a level constraint, which breaks when levels move.
- Changing the location line after drawing, which shifts walls off the grid.
- Modelling finishes as separate thin walls rather than layers in the wall type.
- Drawing walls in a 3D view where the work plane is ambiguous.
Questions
What is the keyboard shortcut for Wall in Revit?
WA. Shortcuts are editable under File > Options > User Interface > Keyboard Shortcuts.
Why does my wall not move when I change the level?
Its top constraint is set to Unconnected. Set the top constraint to a level so the wall stays parametric.
