Revit Schedule command

Shortcut: Document

Creates a live table of model elements by category, with fields, filters, sorting and totals that update as the model changes.

Syntax

View > Schedules > Schedule/Quantities → category → fields → filter → sort

Step by step

  1. Go to View > Schedules > Schedule/Quantities.
  2. Pick the category, such as Doors or Structural Framing.
  3. Add the fields you need, including shared and calculated parameters.
  4. Filter to the scope of the sheet, for example by level or phase.
  5. Set sorting and grouping, tick Itemise every instance off for a summary, and place the schedule on a sheet.

Fields: Mark, Type, Width, Height, Level, Fire Rating. Sort by Mark and turn on Grand totals. Blank Marks and duplicate numbers surface instantly, which no amount of visual checking in plan will do.

Common mistakes

  • Editing values in the view instead of in the schedule, which is slower and less consistent.
  • Forgetting a phase or design-option filter, so the schedule counts elements that are not in the current scope.
  • Using a project parameter where a shared parameter is needed for tags and exports.

Questions

Can I edit the model from a Revit schedule?

Yes. A schedule is a live view of the model, so typing a new type mark or width changes the element itself. This is the fastest way to clean up data.

Why are elements missing from my schedule?

Check the filters, the phase, and whether the elements sit in a linked model — links need the schedule's option to include linked files.
