- 1Drop the .stl file above — binary and ASCII STL are both detected automatically.
- 2Download the .obj and import it with the units you know the original used.
- 3In a renderer, assign a material after import: STL had none to carry across.
- 4For CAD documentation, convert onwards to DXF so the mesh arrives as 3DFACE entities.
Points de vigilance
- Vertices are not welded. STL repeats every corner per triangle, so the OBJ has duplicate vertices — run a merge-by-distance in Blender or MeshLab if that matters.
- Large binary STLs (millions of triangles) are slow in a browser tab; a desktop tool is faster past roughly 2 million facets.
- No colours or materials exist in standard STL, so none appear in the OBJ.

Questions fréquentes des dessinateurs
Will the OBJ be a solid I can machine from?
No. Both formats store surface triangles. For a true solid you need STEP or Parasolid out of the originating CAD package.
Can it read colour STL variants?
The colour extensions some slicers write are non-standard and are ignored here; only geometry is converted.
