How to convert Parasolid (X_T) to STEP
X_T is the native transmit format of the Parasolid kernel, so only Parasolid-based CAD can read it. The good news: those packages all export STEP, and because both formats carry exact solids the conversion is genuinely lossless in geometry terms.
Why there is no uploader on this page
X_T is a closed format that no browser can read, so an in-page converter would have to send your file to a server. The procedure below does the job properly in the application that owns the format — and where a browser-side route exists, it is linked underneath.

- 1SolidWorks: File → Open the .x_t, then File → Save As → STEP AP214 (or AP242 if the downstream tool supports it).
- 2Siemens NX or Solid Edge: open the transmit file directly and export STEP — both are Parasolid-native.
- 3Onshape: import the .x_t into a Part Studio, then export STEP. Useful if you have no desktop CAD licence.
- 4FreeCAD can open X_T only with the optional OCC Parasolid support built in, so it is not a reliable free route.
- 5Check the solid after conversion: run a geometry check for open shells before sending to a supplier.

- Both formats hold exact B-rep solids, so no faceting or tessellation happens — unlike a mesh export.
- Assembly structure and part names survive to STEP; feature history, sketches and parameters do not.
- Custom PMI and tolerance data only carry across in AP242, not AP214.

Is a free X_T to STEP converter available?
Onshape's free plan is the most practical: it imports Parasolid and exports STEP in the browser. Command-line freeware generally cannot license the Parasolid reader.
X_T or X_B — does it matter?
X_T is the text transmit file and X_B the binary one. Both are Parasolid and both open in the same packages.
