How do I convert inches to decimal feet?
Divide the inches by 12. 6 inches is 0.5 ft, 3 inches is 0.25 ft, 1 inch is 0.0833 ft.
How do I convert decimal feet back to feet and inches?
Keep the whole number as feet, multiply the decimal part by 12 for inches, then multiply what is left of the inches by 16 for sixteenths. 7.37 ft → 7' and 0.37 × 12 = 4.44" → 4 7/16".
Why does Civil 3D use decimal feet?
Survey and civil work in the US is measured in decimal feet (often US survey feet). Station values like 12+50.25 are decimal feet, not feet and inches.
