Feet to mm and mm to feet converter

Redrawing a US drawing set in a metric template means converting feet-and-inch dimension strings, not decimal feet. Enter both parts for the exact millimetre value plus the rounded 5 mm figure most European and MENA offices dimension to — and use the reference tables below for the reverse direction, mm back to feet and inches.

Formula

mm = (feet × 304.8) + (inches × 25.4)

One foot is exactly 304.8 mm because an inch is exactly 25.4 mm. Convert the feet and inches separately, then add — never convert a mixed string as a decimal.

Questions

Why do converted dimensions look untidy in metric?

Imperial construction modules do not land on metric ones. 8'-0" is 2438.4 mm, which most offices dimension as 2440. Agree the rounding rule with the design team before redrawing, and record it in the BIM execution plan.

Is 1 foot 300 mm?

No — that is a 1.6% shortcut that accumulates fast. A 100 ft façade converted at 300 mm/ft is 480 mm short, which will not close against a coordinated grid.

How do I convert mm to feet?

Divide by 304.8. A 2400 mm dimension is 7.874 ft, which reads 7'-10 1/2" on an imperial sheet. The reverse table on this page lists the millimetre values that come up most on drawing sets.

How do I change units from mm to feet in AutoCAD?

Type UNITS, set Length type to Architectural and Insertion scale to Inches, then update the dimension style: set DIMLFAC to 0.03937 (1/25.4) so existing millimetre geometry reads in feet and inches. Do not SCALE the model — that breaks every coordinated reference.

How do I change mm to feet in Revit?

Manage → Project Units → Length, then choose "Feet and fractional inches" and set rounding to the nearest 1/16". Revit stores geometry in a single internal unit, so switching display units changes nothing in the model — only how dimensions read.

How do I convert square mm to square feet?

Divide by 92,903.04 (304.8²). Area conversions square the linear factor, which is why applying 304.8 to an area figure is out by a factor of 304.8 — use the m² to ft² converter for floor areas.
